The Art of Collecting Art

As a Texas artist, I have interacted with and observed motivations of the collectors of my art.  I have been very intrigued at how they connect with my work.  I’ve concluded that collecting art is as much an art as is creating the art itself.  I am thankful for this convergence.

It struck me this week as a valued collector visited my gallery and selected several pieces and explained how (1) the art evoked emotion and (2) felt that the individual piece redeploys emotion to another physical location and is able to be communicate that emotion to other third party observers.

This description made me think of the process of pollination and this visual is what (I would like to believe is true in my case) produces goodness (Fruit) which is God’s plan for our life.

The emotion is an experience that is expressed on canvas and as an artist this is the fruit that is manifested from a vision berthed from a deep feeling that could not otherwise be expressed.

I as the artist am on a journey to ultimately create my masterpiece and if the collector is in position to both enjoy the production and ultimately realize value the benefit is exponential.

Fine art is another mode of communication and as the artist I am inspired to prepare and develop my work to make a positive difference for the collector of my production(s).

I have much more to say about the role of the collector and will begin to develop insight over more articles going forward.
